Context
Schools in the villages of Călărași district had toilet facilities from another era: outdoor latrines or rooms with no hot water and no ventilation. The UNICEF programme for educational institutions sets precise standards: separate cubicles by age group, access for children with disabilities, washbasins at child height, hot water and mechanical ventilation.
The task
Two sanitary blocks in the primary school and two in the Peticeni gymnasium, then the sanitary blocks and sanitaryware at the "Mihai Eminescu" Lyceum in Sipoteni, all contracted through ONDRL with UNICEF funding. Before these, Peticeni Town Hall had entrusted us with the water disinfection station under the "European Village" programme.
The solution
We worked in parallel in the three schools, with staggered crews: preparation in one school, services in the second, tiling in the third. Water and sewer pipework was pressure-tested before waterproofing, and the 60×120 tiles went onto verified waterproofing. The HPL cubicles and wall-hung sanitaryware were installed last, so they weren't damaged.
The result
Children in three schools got toilet facilities to the standard required by UNICEF, with hot water, ventilation and accessible cubicles, and the village of Peticeni has disinfected water at the source. For us, four contracts in the same district mean what matters most in public procurement: a client who comes back.
